Negotiations between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda resumed in Geneva more than a year after an initial agreement aimed at resolving their conflict. Despite ongoing talks, fighting continues in eastern Congo, particularly influenced by the activities of M23 and the presence of Rwandan forces, complicating the peace efforts.
A British national, Nusrat Osman, 47, has been abducted in Blantyre, Malawi, with police seeking information on her whereabouts and offering a reward.
The UN human rights chief, Volker Turk, condemned Israeli clearance efforts in Gaza, stating there is “no respect for the dead” as extensive remains of families are unearthed. Concerns grow that evidence of potential war crimes may be destroyed amid ongoing military operations, with over 8,000 people still believed to be buried in the rubble.
James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of a US school shooter, have been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison. They are the first parents of a US school shooter to be convicted. Their son, Ethan Crumbley was 15 when he killed four students with a semi-automatic handgun at Oxford High School. Seven others were wounded in the shooting.
Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed he has set a date for a military offensive into Rafah, despite concerns that it will lead to even more civilian deaths. The southern city of Rafah is currently home to more than a million Palestinians who are sheltering there after being forced to flee. Roughly 1.5 million civilians are sheltering in tents and overcrowded camps.
