Nancy Kassebaum Baker, the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate without a spouse’s influence, has died at the age of 94. Elected in 1978, Kassebaum Baker served three terms and was noted for her independent approach and willingness to engage with constituents, even on contentious issues.
The Supreme Court has temporarily permitted construction of the White House ballroom to proceed, following Chief Justice John Roberts’ stay on a lower court’s injunction. This order will remain until the Court reviews the Justice Department’s appeal regarding the project’s funding and legality.
