Three states are holding primaries on Tuesday. In Florida, voters will select nominees for governor and Senate, with frontrunner Byron Donalds leading the Republican race. In Alaska, incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan faces competition in a nonpartisan primary, while former Representative Mary Peltola seeks a challenge.
The Justice Department filed an appeal on Monday seeking to reinstate criminal charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran man previously wrongfully deported. A May ruling dismissed the charges as vindictive, a claim the Justice Department disputes, asserting multiple valid grounds for prosecution.
The Trump administration’s Justice Department is pursuing unredacted voter registration lists from nearly all US states, claiming the need for compliance with federal voting laws. Lawsuits have been filed against 30 states and the District of Columbia, with 23 cases dismissed so far, including one involving Georgia, which was refiled after a jurisdictional issue.
