Virgin Atlantic flight VS135 from London to Orlando returned to Heathrow due to a minor technical issue after circling off the coast of Ireland for hours.
A significant fire in Walthamstow, east London, led to the evacuation of hundreds of residents as flames engulfed a house and railway embankment. The blaze, tackled by 125 firefighters using twenty fire engines, caused smoke to spread across the capital. No injuries were reported, but travel disruption continues on the Weaver line for repairs.
A Labrador named Tokyo required rescue from Ben Nevis after reportedly consuming cannabis while hiking with her owner. Unable to move, she was carried down by the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and later recovered at a local veterinary clinic. The incident highlights potential dangers of discarded substances in outdoor areas.
The chancellor delivered her first Mansion House speech on Thursday as she urged the City regulators to allow financial service providers to take greater risks, saying that the rules introduced after the 2008 financial crash had “gone too far” and were harming growth.
