News Briefing

What’s happening?
A tragic incident occurred in Wake County, North Carolina, where a vehicle struck a group of cyclists, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. The driver involved faces multiple felony charges, including DWI and hit-and-run.

In coverage of the incident, ABC11 reported, “Capital Cycling Club: Patrick Turner killed, 7 cyclists injured after vehicle strikes group of bicyclists in Wake County,” emphasizing the human impact and the identification of the victim. In contrast, NBC News headlined, “1 dead, at least 12 injured after elderly driver plows into group of cyclists in North Carolina,” which focuses more on the driver’s actions and broader consequences of the event. This framing highlights the conflict between the cyclist group and the driver, whereas ABC11’s approach concentrates on the personal loss and community aspect of the tragedy.

What’s going on?
A gunman opened fire in Kraków’s main square, resulting in six fatalities and multiple injuries. Polish authorities are investigating the incident and have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene. Emergency services responded quickly, treating the wounded at the location.

Coverage varied significantly, with AP reporting, “Gunman opens fire in Polish city of Krakow, killing 6 people and injuring 15,” emphasising the immediate incident and its casualties. In contrast, BBC framed the event as, “Krakow shooting updates: Gunman who killed six believed to have been inspired by far-right ideology, minister says,” highlighting potential motivations behind the attack. This contrast shifts focus from the event itself to the implications of ideology and future security concerns.

Rayne is keeping a big secret – one that ‘haunts’ her every day, apparently (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Much like every great Hollyoaks character, Rayne Royce (Jemma Donovan) is harbouring a big secret, with the latest episode of the serial drama confirming such a thing.

The newcomer, who rocked up in the eponymous village earlier this year, has made quite they impression on everyone she has crossed paths with.

Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner), however, has particularly been taken with her, having found himself smitten and desperate for a relationship, but his recklessness in accusing her of giving him an STI has firmly put the nail in the coffin of any future romance.

Rayne accepted Romeo’s apologies over what happened during Monday’s (March 6) first look offering of the Channel 4 soap, but reiterated that they can never have a future together, as she promised her online followers that she’d dumped him following their fallout.

Lacey Lloyd (Annabelle Davis) quizzed Rayne on how the break up went, with Rayne admitting that she’s still got feelings for Romeo, but Lacey was quick to reassure her pal that keeping away from Romeo is ‘for the best’ commenting that he had a ‘lucky escape’ after ‘what happened last time’.

A secret confirmed.

‘That secret may be buried’, added Rayne, ‘but it still haunts me everyday’.

Consider us very intrigued. Rayne is clearly harbouring a big secret, the question is: just what is it? And what’s more, how bad are we talking?

We also can’t help but wonder if it’s got something to do with the gloved stalker who was watching Rayne and Romeo from afar last week. Could she perhaps have an obsessed fan who is following her and tracking her every move?

We’ll just have to wait and see!

Jemma Donovan, who plays Rayne, told Metro.co.uk earlier this year that there is ‘more to come’ for her character, and it appears as if this is truly the beginning of what she was talking about.

‘I think [it] is going to be really fun and interesting for the audience,’ said the former Neighbours star of what the future holds for Rayne. ‘This is just the beginning. There is more to come, for sure.’

Hollyoaks continues Tuesday March 7 at 7pm on E4, or stream the next episode from midnight on All4.
