What’s going on?
A gunman opened fire in Kraków’s main square, resulting in six fatalities and multiple injuries. Polish authorities are investigating the incident and have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene. Emergency services responded quickly, treating the wounded at the location.

Coverage varied significantly, with AP reporting, “Gunman opens fire in Polish city of Krakow, killing 6 people and injuring 15,” emphasising the immediate incident and its casualties. In contrast, BBC framed the event as, “Krakow shooting updates: Gunman who killed six believed to have been inspired by far-right ideology, minister says,” highlighting potential motivations behind the attack. This contrast shifts focus from the event itself to the implications of ideology and future security concerns.

What’s happening?
Donald Trump has appointed Stephen Miller as his new White House chief of staff. This decision signals a return to a more hardline approach toward immigration and other key policy areas, reflective of Miller’s prior influence in the administration.

In comparing headlines, The Washington Post states, “Stephen Miller’s promotion angers industries reeling from immigration enforcement,” while the BBC frames it as “With Stephen Miller pick, Trump readies for a battle.” The Post’s emphasis is on the immediate backlash from affected industries, highlighting the repercussions of Miller’s policies. In contrast, the BBC’s focus is on the potential for renewed conflict, suggesting a more strategic positioning by Trump rather than a direct reaction to public sentiment. This difference illustrates the varying focuses on the impacts of the appointment versus its broader implications for political conflict.

Avril Lavigne and her new boyfriend Tyga looked iconic as they grabbed a bite to eat at an LA eaterie following the singer’s shock split from fiancé Mod Sun.

The hot new couple dined out at Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi during a romantic date for two in Sant Monica over the weekend.

Avril rocker her typical Sk8er Boi look with a distressed black denim skirt, paired with a matching puffa jacket.

Meanwhile, Tyga complimented his girlfriend’s look perfectly in an all-black combo with the Batman logo on his trousers.

Avril wore her bleached blonde locks long, while Tyga finished off his look with a pair of shades.

The Canadian singer and the rapper seemed to confirm the rumours she was romantically entangled with rapper Tyga as they kissed in public after she parted ways from her musician ex last month.

Mod Sun  – whose real name is Derek Ryan Smith – dropped down on one knee in a romantic display in Paris last year, and although Avril hasn’t spoken out about the split, he has.

The 35-year-old took to social media to express his devastation at parting ways with the 38-year-old icon.

In an emotional post, he wrote: ‘In 1 week my entire life completely changed…I just know there’s a plan for it all. I’ll keep my head up + always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken.

‘Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing. I have the best friends in the entire world, thanks for always having my back. See you on stage [sic].’

At the time of their engagement, Mod Sun took to Instagram again and penned some sweet words for his then-beau.

He wrote: ‘The day we met I knew you were the one. Together forever til our days are done. I had a dream where I proposed in paris. I pulled out a ring + asked you to wear it. I was on one knee as I looked in your eyes.

‘You’re too beautiful for my words to describe. I grabbed your hand + took one last breath…
