Donald Trump announced an unexpected deployment of an additional 5,000 US troops to Poland, citing the electoral success of President Karol Nawrocki, whom he endorsed. The decision surprised both Polish authorities and the US administration, with reports indicating Trump did not consult military officials prior to the announcement.

Portuguese police arrested the mother of two young French boys found abandoned near Comporta, where they were left alone with backpacks. The boys, aged four and five, were reported missing from Colmar, France. Authorities are investigating charges of abuse and abandonment related to the case.

Employees from a Ukrainian arms firm conspired with defense ministry officials to embezzle almost $40 million earmarked to buy 100,000 mortar shells for the war with Russia, Ukraine’s security service reported.  Yet, the current investigation dates back to August 2022, and “anti-corruption activists do say that things have improved in terms of defence procurement”, said FRANCE 24’s correspondent in Kyiv-Ukraine, Gulliver Cragg.
