Call Of Duty 2026 rumoured to be bringing back old movement mechanic

Details about the 2026 Call Of Duty game have already leaked and it seems it’ll be another mix of new and remastered content.

Just a couple of months ago, alleged details for the 2025 Call Of Duty game leaked online, claiming it to be another Black Ops game and a direct sequel to the 2012 entry – which came as a surprise.

With that game expected to be in development at Sledgehammer Games (which last worked on 2023’s Modern Warfare 3), that means Infinity Ward should be handling the 2026 title.

As is traditional for the series at this point, early info for that game has apparently also leaked and it’s reportedly set to tread familiar ground by bringing back wall running and multiple maps from Modern Warfare 3… not last year’s reboot, but the original 2011 game.

The leak comes courtesy of prominent Call Of Duty insider TheGhostOfHope, whose claim that Infinity Ward is handling the 2026 Call Of Duty game lines up with recent reports on the series’ future.

The idea of old Modern Warfare 3 maps getting remastered sounds perfectly plausible considering the Modern Warfare 3 reboot featured remastered maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009.

In fact, while the Modern Warfare 3 reboot consisted entirely of remastered maps, none of which were from the original Modern Warfare 3. It sounded strange at the time, but the decision makes more sense when you remember last year’s game clearly began life as DLC (despite Activision’s denials) and reportedly only had 16 months of development time.

TheGhostOfHope adds that while a majority of the original Modern Warfare 3 maps will see remasters, the 2026 game will feature entirely new maps as well. No doubt because, unlike Sledgehammer last year, Infinity Ward actually has the time to make them.

TheGhostOfHope’s other claim is perhaps more surprising, since wall running hasn’t been a mechanic for years. Introduced in 2015’s Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3, it only ever reappeared in Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare the following year. It was brought back for Call Of Duty: Mobile, but it’s otherwise been absent from the mainline games for almost a decade.

Apparently, the series’ new omnimovement mechanic from Black Ops 6 will also be carried over, both for the 2025 and 2026 games. Given the positive reception to the mechanic, that’s much less of a surprise.

More concrete details about the next couple of Call Of Duty games will likely leak over the coming months, although there are already concerns about Activision’s use of AI for the series.

Fans are already outraged about AI generated artwork being present in Black Ops 6, and it’s also rumoured most of the game’s voice actors have quit due to a lack of AI protections in their contracts.

It’s surely only a matter of time before Activision has AI designing its multiplayer maps…
