‘Cake gate’ bakery ‘threatened with legal action’ amid Catherine Tyldesley row

The Three Little Birds bakery in West Yorkshire has detailed the moment they were threatened by the company NVRLND as the scandal involving Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley continues.

This week, an email was sent to the bakery owner asking for a number of cakes for the soap star’s 40th birthday in exchange for ‘social media exposure’.

Rebecca Severs, who owns the firm, declined the opportunity within an email, writing in a response that her staff ‘can’t feed their kids with exposure on Instagram’.

Catherine, who played Eva Price in the ITV soap and was later named as the celebrity in question, took to social media herself, branding the whole matter ‘utterly bizarre’, writing that the event organisers have ‘been completely misrepresented in this’.

A few days ago, the Three Little Birds bakery updated their Facebook profile detailing that they’ve been ‘threatened with legal action’ by the party planning company NVRLND, who reached out to the business initially.

‘I’ve now been threatened with legal action by NVRLND as a response to this post which they say is encouraging defamation of their business’, they wrote.

‘So in order to make sure our posts are being completely transparent and we aren’t spreading false information, let me just be completely clear. NVRLND aren’t getting paid properly either, they are also working entirely on a “promotional and expenses only basis”. Hope that clears it up.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Catherine’s reps and NVRLND for a comment.

A recent update on the Facebook page has seen the company share an AI-generated drawing of the cake that was requested.

The AI generated drawing was also shared on Instagram (Picture: Three Little Birds Bakery/Instagram)

Rebecca also shared the image on Instagram, writing alongside: ‘I wish I had time to reply to all your amazing messages one by one. But I totally don’t! Please know that knowing how much solidarity is out there for small business is incredible and every message of support means a lot.’

The ordeal – which has been trending on Twitter – has also picked up responses from other famous faces.

Nicola Thorp, another former Corrie star, said that she ‘feels sorry’ for the baker as nobody should be expected to work without receiving payment.

The Metro.co.uk columnist was quick to add that while this wasn’t Catherine’s fault’, she does think that the Eva Price star’s response to the matter was ‘not well-advised’.
