A cable car from an amusement ride detached and fell to the ground at a fair in Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico, on Friday night, narrowly missing nearby visitors. No passengers were inside the cabin, and no injuries have been reported, with the ride subsequently closed for safety inspection by local authorities.

The Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection in Ciudad del Carmen has intervened and placed an official closure seal on the cable car attraction pending a full safety inspection. Local media indicated that the fair, which opened on Thursday, continued operating while installation and assembly of rides were still in progress.

Following the cable car incident at a fair in Ciudad del Carmen, the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection suspended the attraction and placed an official closure seal pending a full safety inspection. Local media reported demands for the release of structural safety documents as the fair continued operating with other attractions.

What remains unclear — Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the collapse.

A cable car from an amusement ride broke free and plunged to the ground as visitors nearby narrowly avoided being struck.

The accident happened at a fair in Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico, on Friday night during the event’s second day of activities.

Footage captured by an attendee showed the cabin moving unusually as it travelled along the ride before it suddenly detached from the structure and crashed down near another attraction.

People can be seen standing beneath the ride moments before the cabin falls, narrowly escaping being struck by the collapsing structure.

No passengers were inside the cabin when it broke away, and no injuries were reported among visitors in the area.

The travelling amusement park and its mechanical rides were operated by Espectaculos Garcia, one of Mexico’s largest fairground ride providers.

The cable car attraction was mainly used by children and families attending the fair.

Following the collapse, the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection in Ciudad del Carmen intervened and suspended the attraction, placing an official closure seal on the ride pending a full safety inspection.

Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the collapse.
