Britney Spears and Elton John release new song
Pop sensation Britney Spears has released her first new song since being released from the conservatorship that controlled her life for 13 years.
Spears has returned to the music scene with a duet with Sir Elton John – Hold Me Closer.
Brit’s first song in six years, it streaming sites on Friday.
“It’s pretty damn cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time,” she said ahead of the release.
“I’m kinda overwhelmed… it’s a big deal to me!”
The song sounds fairly familiar because it includes three of Elton’s best known hits – Tiny Dancer, The One and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.
It’s hard to hear how Spears’ voice has changed since we last from her as Spears and John sing in unison throughout the track and their voices drenched in echo.
And although fans have been excited about the prospect of her returning to music full time, it seems unlikely at present.
In a series of Instagram posts last year, she said she was “staying clear” of the music industry.
“People have no idea the awful things that were done to me personally,” she wrote. “And after what I’ve been through, I’m scared of people and the business!”
