A UK-owned ship sailing through the Red Sea has been hit by rocket fire, according to UK-based maritime security group Ambrey.
The unnamed Bahamas-flagged vessel was ‘struck by a rocket’ while sailing about 40 miles off the coast of Yemen.
Drone activity has also been reported in the area as tensions flare, just weeks after Yemen’s Houthis hijacked a cargo ship indirectly linked to Israel as it was traveling through the same area.
Ambrey said in a statement: ‘The affected vessel was issuing distress calls relating to piracy/missile attack.’
The Houthis of Yemen have fired multiple drone and missile strikes towards Israel since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7.
Ambrey said the ship’s ownership was linked to Dan David Ungar, a British citizen listed as an Israeli resident in Britain’s main companies directory.

The company said the targeted vessel was en route from the United States to Singapore, and had recently gone through the Suez Canal.
They said: ‘The bulker was reportedly struck by a rocket and the crew retreated to the citadel.
‘Numerous vessels passed the incident location today but no unusual manoeuvres were observed.’
