B&Q apologises after books on ‘White Supremacy’ spotted in radiator advert

The White Supremacy book caused a social media backlash

B&Q has been forced to apologise after two books titled ‘White Supremacy’ were seen on top of a radiator in a product picture on its website.

The books were stacked next to flowers and a picture frame in the background of the Aica Radiator Cover product.

The image sparked backlash on social media as B&Q was forced to suspend the third-party seller it said was responsible for the blunder.

A person who spotted the ad wrote on Twitter: ‘Uhhh B&Q can you explain why you have a product picture featuring two books that say ‘white supremacy’?’

B&Q confirmed it is ‘actively reviewing’ its screening process after it failed to pick up the picture of the books.

A customer who was browsing for radiator covers on B&Q’s website said ‘he couldn’t believe’ what he was seeing.

‘There, right in the middle of the B&Q website were these books with ‘white supremacy’ written down the side,’ he told the Doncaster Free Press.

‘I’m sure lots of people would be massively offended seeing something like that. I can’t believe how it managed to get on there.’

The customer was not sure if it was Photoshop and ‘someone has put it in as a joke’.

A B&Q spokesperson said: ‘We deeply apologise for the offence this may have caused from a product that was offered for sale by a third-party seller.

‘B&Q is committed to creating an inclusive place for our colleagues to work and our customers to shop, and in this instance, this product was not picked up by our screening process.

‘We can confirm we suspended the seller and removed the product, and all images associated with it, from diy.com as soon as we became aware of the content.

‘We are actively reviewing our screening process to prevent this happening again, as we are committed to maintaining a respectful and inclusive online environment.’
