Black Mirror’s Loch Henry cast point out moment shock death was foreshadowed in chilling clue – did you spot it?

Black Mirror stars Myha’la Herrald and Samuel Blenkin have insisted the shocking death at the end was foreshadowed with a chilling story at the beginning of the episode, and that therefore it had to happen.

The dark second episode of the sixth season followed a more optimistic ending to Joan Is Awful, as Charlie Brooker’s highly-anticipated programme returned to Netflix.

Loch Henry follows young couple Pia (played by Myha’la) and Davis (played by Samuel) who travel to his hometown in Scotland to produce a nature documentary.

The story they end up exploring, however, is much darker, as they’re drawn into ‘shocking events of the past’, which, in a terrifying twist, involve Davis’ own parents.

The true crime-style episode leads to Pia uncovering the truth that Davis’ mum Janet (Monica Dolan) and her late husband Kenneth were involved in the torture and murder of a young couple years ago, which had been blamed on a local, Iain Adair.

After the truth is exposed in chilling tapes, which sees Janet torture the victims with a drills while cackling, Pia, left alone by Davis, tries to escape from his mum, and in a swift chase scene, she’s left lying dead in a river.

‘It’s quite abrupt in the way it happens,’ Myha’la told Metro.co.uk, adding ‘she’s gone and it’s done’.

However, when asked if there were any alternative endings after the shocking scene, Myha’la insisted: ‘She absolutely had to [die], the morbidity of the whole of it… I think she had to, otherwise it wouldn’t have had as much of an impact.’

Earlier in the episode, Davis introduced Pia to the eerie countryside, before revealing the town’s spooky history and the mysterious death of the young couple.

It was the story of ‘nightmares,’ his friend Stuart added.

In turn, her curiosity led her to wanting to explore the mystery even more, adding that a documentary about it would explore both ‘life and death’.

Samuel added: ‘It’s what Davis alluded to at the beginning of the episode, it’s dangerous in the countryside.’

‘And that is mirrored, the fact that it could actually happen to you is the same beat that happens at the end of the episode.’

The final scenes see Davis weeping in grief after his girlfriend’s tragic death and his own mother killing herself when her secrets were revealed.

Samuel continued: ‘When you watch Davis dealing with the reality of the fact that that his tragedy is known to everyone in the world, how can he reconcile himself with his own grief, and how does he process it now that he’s sold his story.

‘It’s the same kind of grounding in reality, it’s pretty bleak you’re right, the ending is bleak.’

Talking about the first time he read the script for Loch Henry, he added: ‘I loved how it was penetratingly prescient, I thought it was for me.

‘It’s just something that I hadn’t thought about, the way that we, how readily we want to consume other people’s trauma is packaged in a kind of dramatic form.’
