Big Brother star Matty left his fellow housemate Olivia admittedly ‘baffled’ as he spoke candidly about his open relationship.
Matty, a 24-year-old doctor from the Isle of Man, was keen to educate Olivia, a 23-year-old Glasweigan dancer, on the reality of open relationships.
He began by explaining that he wasn’t in an open relationship with his boyfriend solely as a way of ‘preventing cheating’.
‘It’s freedom to pursue other people instead of the preventative of cheating,’ he said.
‘Do you know what I’m trying to say? If you’ve never been exposed to it before, the only way that you can comprehend it is the prevention of cheating.’
‘How do you learn that?’, Olivia quizzed.

‘It’s not easy to learn,’ Matty confessed.
A stunned Olivia exclaimed: ‘It’s baffling me. How do you learn that?’
Matty proceeded to explain that accepting open relationships is about ‘rewiring your brain’ and ‘everything you were taught as a child.’
‘Do you know what else I find crazy, right?’, Olivia continued. ‘Is how openly you can talk about it.’
She added that she finds it ‘amazing’ how Matty is so comfortable with the subject matter.
He then said he doesn’t want there to be a ‘taboo’ surrounding his romances, but he understands why people see it as such.

Matty confirmed that his parents know of his open relationship.
‘And she’s like, “Have fun”?’, Olivia asked.
Matty replied: ‘They’re like, “Do whatever you want that makes you happy”.’
The doctor acknowledged that his parents have a very ‘forward way’ of thinking and he is ‘very lucky’ because both his and his partner’s families are ‘progressive.’
‘At the core of our relationship, we just want each other to be happy.’
The ITV revival of Big Brother has been widely praised by viewers for its discussions surrounding sexuality and gender, as well as the diverse casting.

Previously, youngest housemate Hallie, 18, left viewers both in awe and in tears as she came out as transgender.
What followed was a beautiful moment in which every housemate stated their pronouns to make sure they were addressing one another correctly.
Audiences at home took to Twitter to hail it one of the ‘most inclusive’ moments they’ve seen on TV.
‘Going round the table to confirm pronouns! Such a simple, courteous and lovely thing to do for each other’, one person tweeted.
Following Matty’s open relationship revelation, fans were also pleased to see the discussion being had on their screens.
‘Matty is someone i really relate to’, one person wrote. ‘As someone who is also open in relationships, it’s so refreshing to relate to someone on a reality show’.
‘Open relationship chat on #bbuk . The queers really are winning this reboot’, praised another.
