Monday’s US front pages – like many others around the world – lead with news the US president has given Ukraine the green light to use American-made missiles in Russia.
Away from the policy shift, many of the major American newspapers continue their coverage of domestic politics as Donald Trump’s picks for cabinet continues to be scrutinised – as does the role of Elon Musk.

The Wall Street Journal says it marks the first time Ukrainian forces will “use Western-made long-range weapons to strike inside Russia, allowing Kyiv to better defend itself.” The paper says Biden’s move comes as “Trump’s push for peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine is finding growing acceptance in Europe.”

The Washington Post highlights that the weapons are for limited strikes in Russia and are in response to “North Korea’s deployment of thousands of troops to aid Moscow’s war effort.”

The New York Times says Biden’s decision has divided his advisers and the shift in policy comes just months before Donald Trump takes office – the 47th President has vowed to limit further support for Ukraine.
LA Times reports Musk has Trump’s attention but he might just be looking out for himself.’
The Los Angeles Times reports on domestic news. The paper says Donald Trump poses a threat to California’s transgender protections. Elsewhere the paper ponders whether Elon Musk will boost the EV sector, saying he has “Trump’s attention” but might just be looking out for himself.

USA Today reports on Donald Trump’s choices for Cabinet ahead of his return to the White House in January. The paper says Republicans were defensive about two of Trump’s most controversial Cabinet picks on Sunday.
