BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty cheekily nudges co-host Charlie Stayt live on-air after blunder

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty swept into action as she noticed her co-star Charlie Stayt making a gaffe.

The presenter, who was recently seen puffing a cigarette unaware she was outside a no-smoking area, had to slyly remind Charlie, 60, he was still on-air.

Naga, 48, had been interviewing barrister Victoria Butler-Cole, who joined by video call from Devon, about funding for families with disabled children.

But as they cut back to the BBC studio mid-discussion, Charlie was seen immersed in the day’s paper, catching up on the headlines.

Noticing Charlie’s attention was elsewhere, Naga gave him a gentle nudge, although he didn’t immediately notice.

Fortunately, Naga is a dab hand at stopping blunders, having recently saved a BBC Breakfast segment from a gatecrasher.

Last Friday, roving reporter Hannah Miller had been situated at Download Festival to speak about news from the UK music event.

But as she made her way around the campsite, a festival-goer emerged and made an inappropriate remark about drugs.

The reveler exclaimed into the camera: ‘I love my prescription speed provided by the NHS.’

While a slight-flustered Hannah apologised to the audience, Naga quickly cut the segment short to prevent any further off-colour comments.

Naga isn’t immune to the giggles, though, having struggled last year to keep a straight face when a baby kept farting during an emotional cancer story.

The former Strictly star also recently opened up about her adenomyosis diagnosis, which sometimes leaves her in pain so bad it ‘takes her breath away’.

The NHS describes adenomyosis as ‘a condition where the endometrium (lining of the womb) is found deep in the myometrium (muscle of the uterus)’.

The most common symptoms are heavy, painful or irregular periods and pre-menstrual pelvic pain and feelings of heaviness/discomfort in the pelvis.

BBC Breakfasts airs weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
