BBC Breakfast presenter Nina Warhurst shared the sweet moment her dad and daughter met for the first time.

Nina’s dad Chris looked at the new arrival, Nance, with nothing but love and affection, even playing with her toes.

Sharing a photo of the heartwarming meeting of the different generations she pointed out: ‘It was not quiet’ and added ‘he’s still got it’.

The 42-year-old also tagged Dementia Adventures in an Instagram story as Chris was diagnosed with alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia last year – something that Nina has honestly opened up about in the past.

She wrote on Instagram in May: ‘Dementia is tightening its grip quite quickly now. Dad is losing some basic skills and is increasingly reluctant to go out.’

Nina later gave hope to other families on BBC Radio 5.

‘Once you’ve shifted to adapt it into your lives you can have happy times again,’ she explained.

‘Yes, you feel like you’re standing on shifting sand quite a lot, but you can have those lovely times.’

This is Nana’s third child – she also has sons Digby, seven and Michael, five with husband Ed Fraser. The latest addition to their family joined them just last month.

The news was announced by her BBC Breakfast co-hosts live on air.

Sally Nurgent said: ‘Some very exciting news now about our colleague Nina Warhurst who we said goodbye to not very many days ago as she went off on maternity leave.

‘She has welcomed a very healthy, beautiful baby girl.’

Nina has been refreshingly honest about the first few weeks of motherhood.

She shared the joy of it all and wrote: ‘We’ve lost all sense of time as we’ve been feeding and snoozing and gazing and toe-stroking and head-smelling and marvelling at the absolute wonder of it all’.

The TV star then went on to list the harder elements on a recent Instagram post to celebrate Nance’s one month on earth.

‘I’d forgotten the anxiety of labour moving from the plan,’ she began.

‘I’d forgotten the swollen scars, bleeding breasts, mastitis fever, hormonal crashes, clots, constipation, codeine withdrawal, exhaustion…. And this time the added funk of a nose bleed (y tho?!)’

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
