Bayern Munich are reportedly in talks to sign David de Gea on a free transfer – but the German club have one key problem over a possible move.
De Gea left Manchester United this summer after 12 years at Old Trafford, in which he made 545 appearances and broke the club’s all-time clean sheet record.
The 32-year-old was United’s top earner with a £375,000-a-week salary and the Red Devils decided not to trigger the year extension on his contract, opting to bring in a more modern goalkeeper in the shape of Andre Onana instead.
De Gea is yet to find a new club and had attracted interest from teams in Saudi Arabia, who have been on a spending spree this summer, paying huge wages to star players in order to tempt them to swap Europe for the Middle East.
But De Gea turned down Saudi interest and also snubbed a transfer to Italian club Inter Milan – with the Spaniard thought to be keen on a move back to La Liga.
Real Madrid looked set to sign De Gea but manager Carlo Ancelotti was not keen on the former United ‘keeper and they decided to bring in Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea instead.
German champions Bayern Munich now want to sign De Gea but according to reports they face a key problem over a move – his wage demands are too high.
