Bank Holiday: Shops closing for Queen’s funeral

Shops have announced they will shut their doors in the UK on Monday 19 September, as a sign of respect to Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral.

The shops include John Lewis, Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl.

Monday 19 September is a bank holiday across the UK – to mark the Queen’s funeral.

The Queen is Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

Queen's funeral plans, bank holiday - which shops will close?

Harrods, Homebase WH Smith, B&Q, Primark, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Argos, Ikea and Blue Diamond Garden Centres have also said that they will close stores on that day.

A few Waitrose shops are set to remain open along the route of the procession.

Sainsbury’s said online deliveries, as well as fast-track deliveries from its Argos stores, will be halted.

Sainsbury’s convenience stores and petrol filling stations will be open from 17:00 until 22:00 while select stores in central London will open to serve people attending the funeral.

Tesco Express shops will open at 17:00 but a small number of shops in central London and Windsor will remain open throughout the day.
