The scandals surrounding the cast of Glee will be explored in an upcoming documentary, by Discovery+ and ID, it has been claimed.

The series ran for six seasons between 2009 and 2015, following the glee club at a high school.

Lea Michele led the cast as Rachel Berry, alongside Naya Rivera, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley and Dianna Argon.

However, despite numerous award nominations and wins, the program was marred by devastating deaths and scandals.

A new docuseries, which currently doesn’t have a title, will reportedly delve into the behind-the-scenes issues, events and drama that overshadowed the musical comedy-drama, including allegations that Michele created a toxic environment on set.

Michele later responded to the allegations in a lengthy apology, explaining that she ‘clearly acted in ways which hurt other people’.

The three-part series is set to focus on the highs and lows of Glee, and feature interviews and testimonials, with never-head-before anecdotes.

According to Deadline, the filmmakers will address the death of Monteith – who played Finn Hudson – after he died of an accidental overdose in 2013, aged 31.

As well as this, the outlet claims they will explore Mark Salling’s suicide after he pleaded guilty to possessing image of child sex abuse.

He died by suicide in 2018, at the age of 35, while awaiting sentencing.

Rivera, who played Santana Lopez, drowned in 2020 while she was out boating in California with her son, Josey, who survived the incident and now lives with his dad, Ryan Dorsey – a tragedy which will reportedly be discussed in the program.

A date for the docuseries has not been confirmed, but it comes from the same team behind Facebook’s Nine Months With Courteney Cox, as well as HBO series The Invisible Pilot.

Glee was hugely popular with fans when it first hit the small screen in 2009, introducing us to the goings on at McKinley High as the students navigated popularity and romance while also performing some incredible musical numbers.

It regularly featured celebrity cameo appearances from stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Idina Menzel, Neil Patrick Harris and Demi Lovato – before coming to an end on March 20, 2015.
