Get you up to speed: ‘Every day matters’: One B.C. family’s race to save their little boy

Clyde was diagnosed with metachromatic leukodystrophy, a genetic disease that attacks the nervous system, after his family observed he was stumbling and could no longer use the stairs. The situation confirmed the seriousness of his condition.

Clyde’s family observed that he was experiencing mobility issues, including difficulty using stairs, prompting medical evaluation. He has since been diagnosed with metachromatic leukodystrophy, a genetic condition affecting the nervous system.

Clyde’s family is advocating for increased awareness and research funding for metachromatic leukodystrophy in light of his diagnosis. Health officials have indicated plans to review support services for families affected by rare genetic disorders, with discussions scheduled for next month.

What remains unclear — It is not known when Clyde’s symptoms first began to appear.
