India bridge collapse – death toll rises to 141 There is heartbreak and shock in India following the collapse of a bridge in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Sunday. The death toll has risen to at least 141 people and dozens are injured. Hundreds of people were on the pedestrian suspension bridge – a major tourist attraction in the Morbi district – when it collapsed into the Machchu river.  Officials confirm the victims include several children and elderly people.  The bridge had only reopened days earlier, following a closure for repairs. Brazil election: Lula beats out far-right Bolsonaro Brazil has elected Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – the left-wing former president, who was imprisoned in 2018 but had his conviction thrown out. He beat out far-right Jair Bolsonaro in the presidential election, a divisive campaign which saw the two rivals go head to head- with Lila winning 50.9% of the votes.
