Rishi Sunak is said to be “positive” about the prospect of overturning the judgment after declaring that the Government would seek permission to appeal against the decision in the Supreme Court. Lord Zac Goldsmith resigns after criticism over Partygate probe Lord Zac Goldsmith has quit as a minister after he was found to have undermined a Commons investigation into Boris Johnson and Partygate. He was among 10 Tories the Privileges Committee said was part of a campaign to interfere with their inquiry. Lord Goldsmith said the government’s “apathy” on climate change made it “untenable” for him to remain minister for the international environment. ‘Historic’ 15-year plan to boost NHS workforce The UK government has announced there will be a major shakeup of the NHS, with an expansion in training places for health staff in England. The 15-year-plan has been called “historic” and will tackle NHS staffing shortages. The plan includes more university places for medical and nursing students and a greater emphasis on apprenticeships with the first scheme for doctors.  There will also be a consultation on whether medical degrees could be shortened by a year.  The plan does not mention pay but instead focuses on how much training places need to increase. …
