The paper says England captain Ben Stokes ‘hit out’ at the Aussies calling the stumping ‘’underhanded’. The paper also reports on Stuart Board’s comments that poor sportsmanship will be all the Aussies are remembered for. 

Daily Star Sport – ‘Same old Aussies’ The back page of the Daily Star finds space to flag England’s achievements at the European Under-21 Championships after Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon fired them into the semi-finals. The paper’s main image is of Jonny Bairstow who was controversially stumped out, leading to Australia winning the Ashes. The paper claims “same old Aussies” and calls the stumping “shameless.”

The Telegraph – ‘Ashes battle turns toxic’ The back page of the Daily Telegraph features a large image of the Australians celebrating after stumping out Jonny Bairstow. The paper says the England team were furious after he was stumped out and have branded it poor sportsmanship. The paper also reports that three members of MCC have been suspended for abusive behaviour towards the Aussie players following the incident. 

Express Sport – ‘Spirit of cricket reduced to Ashes’ The back page of the Daily Express leads heavily on the drama at the Ashes, after Australia controversially stumped out Jonny Bairstow – and whilst not breaking the rules, it was considered poor sportsmanship. Ben Stokes’ comments that he wouldn’t want to win the Ashes ‘like that’ is headlined on the paper.
