Strike action could hit summer holiday flights in Europe Flights across Europe this summer holiday period could face extreme disruption due to strike action by air traffic controllers. Second-day of disruption for strike-hit schools England’s schools are facing another day of disruption as teachers strike for a second time this week. Members of the National Education Union (NEU) are striking for the seventh day of national action since February, in a long-running dispute over pay. Wimbledon school crash: Driver quizzed after death of girl, 8 A woman in her 40s is being questioned over the car crash at a Wimbledon school, which left an eight-year-old girl dead and at least 16 others injured, some remain in critical condition. The woman remains in custody having been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Amazon deforestation down by a third in 2023, says Brazilian government Brazil’s government has announced that deforestation in the Amazon fell by 33.6% in the first six months of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s term compared with the same period in 2022. It suggests the rainforest shrank by 2,649 sq km this January-June, down from 3,988 sq km in those six months last year under President Bolsonaro. Threads launched on Wednesday, and saw millions sign up. The social media site has been pitched as a “friendly” alternative to Twitter, which under Musk, appears to have become a bigger hotbed for misinformation and bullying. Britney Spears says she was struck by Victor Wembanyama’s guard American pop star Britney Spears has said she was “backhanded in the face” by a security guard for an NBA player in Las Vegas on Wednesday.  Las Vegas police confirmed they were called to the scene regarding a battery investigation, but no arrests have been made.  Spears took to Instagram to explain the incident.
