Cricket Australia records near $17m loss despite boost from hosting T20 World Cup The Guardian says Hosting the Twenty20 World Cup last year has gone some way to balancing the books at Cricket Australia, after the organisation announced it recorded a $16.9m loss in 2022-23. The governing body said the loss was driven by an “expected low point in the revenue cycle” given it was a non-Ashes year, although the game set a new attendance record last summer. The Cricket Australia chair, Mike Baird, on Thursday flagged there may be more economic headwinds in the future. “Cricket has reached an…

It was part of a pay deal for more than a million NHS staff in England this year and was to recognise the pressure of the Covid pandemic on staff. Fury over higher air traffic charges after IT meltdown Airlines have warned that passengers will face higher fares after the UK’s aviation regulator increased air traffic control charges. The costs, paid by airlines, come following the August air traffic control meltdown across the UK. It saw flights delayed, cancelled and thousands stranded. The fee will rise from £46 to £64 per flight until 2027 – an increase of 43p per passenger to £2.08 on average. Airlines say the increases “cannot be justified” – pointing to the August meltdown.
