Anastrozole: Thousands to be offered drug to prevent breast cancer in England A new drug – Anastrozole – has been licensed as a preventative option for breast cancer, meaning tens of thousands of women in England could benefit. The drug has been used for many years to treat the disease, but this is the first time it will be used as a preventative option. Captain Tom’s family lose spa demolition appeal The family of Captain Sir Tom Moore have lost a planning application appeal against the demolition of an unauthorised home spa in their garden. Moore’s daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband had appealed against the order by Central Bedfordshire Council. They used the Captain Tom Foundation name on the first plan before a revised application was turned down. The family have three months to comply with an existing demotion order. House prices rise for first time in six months, says Halifax Halifax reports that house prices rose in October for the first time in six months, but it expects values to fall over the next year. Halifax – the UK’s largest mortgage lender – said prices rose 1.1% last month, taking the average property value to £281,974. But the rise is due to a lack of homes for sale and the demand from buyers remaining weak. Israel Gaza war: Gaza death toll passes 10,000 More than 10,000 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel began bombing the Strip last month, according to the health ministry.  More than 4,000 of those killed were children, the Hamas-run ministry added. The number surpasses the UN’s figure of about 5,400 killed in Gaza in all of Israel’s previous conflicts with Hamas since it took control of the territory in 2007. Italy to seize $835m from Airbnb in tax evasion inquiry An Italian judge has ordered the seizure of €779.5m from Airbnb over alleged tax evasion. Preosceuots says Airbnb failed to collect a tax from landlords on around €3.7bn of rental income. Landlords in Italy are required to pay a 21% tax on their earnings. Airbnb told the BBC that it was “surprised and disappointed at the action announced by the Italian public prosecutor”.
