Australia lockdown: How rising Covid cases, slow vaccine roll-out and Delta variant sparked new restrictions
The i says Australia is “panicking” as it tries to contain an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta variant of coronavirus, an expert said as he warned the country’s slow vaccine uptake will lead to a surge in cases.
Sydney in the east and Darwin in the north were locked down on Monday as the country battles with Covid-19 clusters in several states. Sydney, home to a fifth of Australia’s population, is in a two-week lockdown until 9 July, while a stay-home order in the outback city of Darwin was extended by 72 hours to Friday.
