Australia and the social media ban: Premier offers Elon Musk a talk

Instagram, TikTok and Co. will soon be banned in Australia for those under 16 years of age – to protect minors. Elon Musk sharply criticizes the plan. Now an invitation comes from Canberra.

Australia is taking a big step forward when it comes to banning social media for young people. It’s no surprise that this hasn’t gone down particularly well with the companies concerned. One of the loudest critics – and this is no surprise here either – has been X buyer Elon Musk.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is now offering to talk to the tech billionaire about the social media ban for people under 16. “We will talk to everyone,” Albanese said in an Australian Broadcasting Corporation broadcast on Sunday (local time) when asked whether he was willing to talk to Musk about the social media ban.
