    At least 17 people have been injured after a collision between two commuter trains 25 miles north of Copenhagen, with four in a critical condition. The incident occurred shortly before 6.30am on a section of track between Hillerod and Kagerup village.

Gribskov Mayor Trine Egetved stated, “Emergency services are working at full capacity, and at central level we are working to gain a clearer understanding of what has happened.”

    Pictures from the scene show the mangled wreckage of the front of both trains.

    The collision happened on a part of track between the town of Hillerod and Kagerup village shortly before 6.30am.

    Police have declared a major incident while emergency crews work at the scene.

    Gribskov Mayor Trine Egetved said: ‘I am deeply shaken and shocked, and my thoughts are with everyone affected.

    ‘The local railway is used daily by many residents of Gribskov, as well as workers and schoolchildren.

    ‘Emergency services are working at full capacity, and at central level we are working to gain a clearer understanding of what has happened and to ensure that everyone receives the help they need.’

    A spokesperson for the rescue services said: ‘There are injuries among the passengers. Everyone is out of the trains, so no one is trapped… Large resources ‌have been dispatched to the scene.’

    The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals, the fire department said.
