‘Ask for Henry’ discreet free meals returns to Morrisons for coronation

An initiative to feed thousands of hungry people is returning to a UK supermarket this spring.

First launched last October in partnership with Heinz, the ‘Ask for Henry’ campaign will allow anyone who uses the phrase at a Morrisons café to receive a jacket potato meal for free.

The initiative will be in place for two weeks between April 24 and May 7, coinciding with the coronation of King Charles III on May 6.

It comes amid the growing cost of living crisis in the UK, a fall in real-term disposable income across the country with inflation and energy bills in particular at a record high.

The cost of milk, for instance, rose by almost 40% in the 12 months before March 2023.

In the North of England, child poverty is currently at its highest level since 2001, with almost a million children living below the poverty line.

‘Ask for Henry’ is part of Heinz’s global drive to deliver one and a half billion meals to people in need by 2025.

Jojo de Noronha, the company’s president for northern Europe, said: ‘Last October we launched the “Ask for Henry” initiative for the first time and were blown away by the response.

‘That’s why we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring back the initiative again, available from April 24.’

She added: ‘We would really encourage anyone who feels they may need or want a hot, hearty meal to take us up on this offer – it’s open to absolutely everyone, and there is plenty to go around.

‘Whilst we know it doesn’t fix the problem, we’d love to be able to help as many people as we can in this two-week period in our own small way.’

Sian Whittle, category director for food service at Morrisons, said: ‘Our customers were very grateful for the ‘Ask for Henry’ initiative last year and as they continue to face financial pressures we’re pleased to be renewing our partnership with Heinz.’
