It’s almost time for the second May bank holiday, which we’re getting thanks to the coronation.

And whether you’re working, hosting a street party or getting together with friends and family, a quick pop to the shops at some point is almost inevitable.

Trouble is, with so many bank holidays – and so soon after Easter – it’s easy to get confused about what’s open and when.

The latest one falls on Monday, May 8 – shortly after King Charles III’s coronation on Saturday, May 6.

So if you’re planning to head to Asda – whether it’s for a big food shop, to check out any coronation-themed items, grab ingredients for the coronation quiche, or just some last-minute essentials, will it be open on the bank holiday and if so, when?

Here’s what you need to know.

In general, you can expect your local Asda to be open on coronation bank holiday Monday – but the hours may well differ to usual.

To check, use the official Asda store locator, find your chosen store and and then pick the ‘holiday’ drop-down menu.

For example, Asda Clapham Junction in London will be open on coronation bank holiday Monday for shorter hours – opening at its usual 6am but closing at 8pm instead of midnight.

Likewise, Asda Stepney Green will open as usual as 7am but close at 8pm instead of 11pm.

The good news for Asda staff is that the store is paying double time, and offering a paid day off to volunteer in the Big Help Out, a project aiming to raise awareness of volunteering in the UK.

Asda wll be doing deliveries on the bank holiday, so you can book one in the usual way – provided there are slots available.

And if you need something urgently, but can’t get out to the shops, Asda also partner with services like Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo in order for some customers to receive groceries within an hour of ordering.
