Arsenal have told Newcastle United that it will cost them more than £30m to sign defender Kieran Tierney this summer.
Newcastle were confident of signing Tierney for £30m as Eddie Howe’s side prepare for life in the Champions League.
But Arsenal are looking to land a bigger fee for the Scotland international, according to the Telegraph.
Tierney has just endured a frustrating season on a personal level at Arsenal after struggling for game time and regular starts.
The Gunners spent £25m to sign Tierney from Scottish champions Celtic in 2019 and the 26-year-old made a promising start to his career in north London.
But Tierney’s game time suffered following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s move from Manchester City last summer and he is weighing up his future at the Emirates.
Tierney has made 123 appearances for Arsenal in total and is under contact until 2026.
John Barnes has urged Tierney to snub Newcastle and fight for his place at Arsenal.
‘Kieran Tierney is a good player who would definitely be a good fit for Newcastle but he’s also a good fit for Arsenal,’ Barnes said.
‘He’s an Arsenal player and Arsenal is a good fit for him. Of course they have Zinchenko who is playing in Tierney’s position right now, but I don’t see why at this particular point of time he would want to leave Arsenal.’
Newcastle were hoping £30m would be enough…
