Apple eyes 2024 release for its first foldable device, says analyst

Looks like Apple might finally be joining the foldable device bandwagon but it won’t start with the iPhone.

Apple could release its first foldable iPad in 2024, according to an analyst from CCS Insight.

‘Right now, it doesn’t make sense for Apple to make a foldable iPhone,’ Ben Wood told CNBC.

Such a move would allow the iPhone maker to test the waters with foldable devices and ‘breathe new life’ into its iPad lineup.

The report aligns with other experts who believe that Apple is working on a foldable with a display larger than that of a smartphone.

In February, Mark Gurman, a reliable source for potential Apple features said that the company was developing a ‘dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid’ with a 20-inch display.

Ming-Chi Kuo, another analyst said in April that Apple might launch a ‘foldable iPad or a hybrid of iPad and iPhone’ in 2025.

Either way, we might see a foldable device from Apple in the near future. However, it will have to compete with its main smartphone rival, Samsung, which has released several foldable devices in the past few years.

This year, around the same time Apple launched its new iPhone 14 model, Samsung unveiled two new foldable smartphones priced at £999 and £1,649.

We even tried out the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and thought it might just find a place with Gen Z.
