Angus Mitchell, the only child of the late, world-famous hairstylist Paul Mitchell, has died aged 53, it’s been reported.
It’s been claimed that at 6am on Wednesday morning, law enforcement officers received a call from Angus’ home in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The enforcement officers were reportedly informed on the call that a man appeared to have drowned in a pool, with Mitchell pronounced dead at the scene.
No official cause of death has been given, TMZ reported.
Less than a day ago, he had posted videos on his Instagram Story of himself with friends enjoying singing and music being played on guitars and on the piano.
He was born in 1970 to haircare company co-founder and hairstylist Paul, and fashion model and actress Jolina Zandueta Wyrzykowski.
In June 2023, Angus paid tribute to his late father on Father’s Day, writing in his caption on Instagram: ‘Happy Father’s Day, Dad. You’re always on my mind and in my heart. Missing you always~🙏🏼’ (Picture: Chad Scott/Instagram/Angus Mitchell)
Paul died in 1989 aged 53 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, with his son subsequently inheriting his father’s share of John Paul Mitchell Systems & Schools.
Three days ago, Angus posted a Happy New Year message on Instagram, with a picture of himself with his family.
In the caption, he wrote: ‘Who’s ready to wrap 2023 and head into the new year?! Cheers to 2024 from my family to yours 🥂🤙🏼 #nye #celebration #kobeyear.’
People devastated by the news of his death wrote sorrowful messages in the comment section to express their grief, including stuntman Tanoai Reed.
‘I just blew you a kiss on FaceTime yesterday 😢,’ he wrote in his comment.
‘I’ll follow that up with a big hug someday once I see you again. Your heart and love for life, your friends and especially your family was something I’ve always admired.
‘Thank you for being an amazing person and friend. A hui hou…Until we meet again. Love you braddah @angusmitchell_ 🙏🏽❤️.’

Photographer Deborah Anderson wrote: ‘I love you Angus. I love you. I love you. My heart is holding you close. As you said to me only days ago, I love you with all my heart Deborah, I too will always love you with all my heart Angus ❤️.’
Musician Anuhea said that they were ‘heartbroken’, adding: ‘Such an awesome , sweet, hilarious, generous man and family 😭😭 I’m in disbelief😭😭💔💔.’
Manifestation coach Tracy Ftacek also put: ‘Always a kind man with kind words. Thankful to have had you as one of my mentors. Prayers to you and the family to lift them up with light. 💕✨🙏🏻.’
In an interview with Forbes conducted in January last year, Angus opened up about following in his late father’s footsteps.
‘It was probably one of the more difficult paths I could have chosen for myself,’ he said at the time.
‘I always knew I wanted to honour my father and better understand the industry and family business. But having the last name Mitchell made things harder for me.
‘In beauty school, my work was scrutinised and my confidence shaken. Respect and opportunity are earned; they are not an entitlement, regardless of birthright. I was always aware I was under a microscope and I wanted the approval of my peers. I just kept my head up and stayed committed to completing what I had started.’
