Angela Bassett well and truly did the thing as she appeared on the red carpet at this year’s Oscars.

The 64-year-old has been nominated for best supporting actress for her standout role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and has been tipped to win big on the night.

She looked incredible as she made her way into the Dolby Theatre, in LA, grinning widely as she posed for pictures.

The Marvel icon donned a stunning floor-length, one-shouldered purple gown with wrap detailing and a short train.

She paired the look with a diamond-encrusted necklace and matching bangles, adding a bejeweled purple bag.

We’re going to need this gown in our wardrobe immediately.

It’s a big night for Angela as she has been mentioned in the category for best supporting actress, for the Black Panther sequel.

She will be going up against some huge names in the industry, including Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu – who both appeared in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Meanwhile, Hong Chau has been nominated for The Whale, and The Banshees of Inisherin star Kerry Condon rounds out the category.

Angela unwittingly became a meme after Ariana DeBose famously name-dropped her during a performance at the Baftas last month, in scenes that instantly went viral.

The Oscar-winner shouted out Angela on the night, simply stating that she ‘did the thing’.

Side note: She was not wrong as the Hollywood icon has indeed done many things.

Many were left baffled by Ariana’s initial performance, leading to her taking a brief break from social media.

However, she got the seal of approval from Angela, who made sure to check on her pal after the attention she received.

‘I DM’d her last night. I did. It was beautiful,’ she told Variety at the NAACP Image Awards.

’I just wanted to make sure she was okay because it’s a lot of attention. And she is A-Okay.’

Angela also referenced the phrase on stage later in the night, while accepting the award for entertainer of the year.

She joked: ‘I guess Angela Bassett did the thing! Huh?’

    Truly, she did.
