With the cost of living crisis continuing to impact everything from energy bills to food prices, many people will be worried about how to afford Christmas this year.

Thankfully, help may be at hand, courtesy of supermarket Aldi. In a bid to help folks make the most of this year’s festive season, the supermarket chain has announced a ‘Christmas Price Lock’, which will see prices of key festive food items remaining the same as they were in 2022.

Shoppers can take advantage of locked prices on whole turkey crowns, pigs in blankets, Christmas puddings, and festive vegetables – which in turn could see a family of four enjoying a festive meal for less than £15, depending on what’s on the menu.

What’s more, three of Aldi’s fresh turkey lines will be even cheaper than 2022 at just £3.75 per kg this Christmas.

The move comes amid new research from Aldi, which has has revealed more than one in three (35%) Brits are worried about the cost of this year’s Christmas and have been planning to scale back celebrations this year due to the expense.

The supermarket has found that 40% of Brits are planning to spend less on Christmas food compared to last year, with nearly one in five planning to invite fewer people to the Christmas meal.

Aunties and uncles have topped the list of those most likely to be uninvited (15%), closely followed by mothers-in-law (12%) and fathers-in-law (11%) – although a further 16% of people have even said they are considering uninviting themselves from the festivities in a bid to save costs for friends and family.

The Price Lock was announced ahead of the start of November, which is when over a quarter of British people start buying their Christmas Day food – although almost one in five of those surveyed admitted to spreading the cost of the big day by buying items such as chocolate, wine and Christmas pudding in the sales.

A whole 39% of people also admitted they would stock up on all festival foods months before the Christmas period if it didn’t run the risk of going off.

‌Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: ‘At Aldi we believe that everyone should get to enjoy an amazing Christmas, which is why we’re introducing the Aldi Christmas Price Lock.

‘Our research shows cost is a major factor when it comes to choosing food options and by locking the prices of key staples at the level they were in 2022, it will help our customers up and down the country enjoy the Christmas dinner they deserve with the ones they love.’

The Christmas Price Lock hopes to ensure Brits can now enjoy the Christmas dinner they desire for the same price as last year, with the nation’s favourite Christmas dinner items including turkey and pigs in blankets making the list.

This comes just as Aldi was been named the cheapest supermarket for the 16th consecutive month, by Consumer group Which?

Products included in the Aldi Price Lock are available across the following dates this festive period:

Holly Lane Christmas Pudding 400g available in stores now

Butcher’s Select Pigs in Blankets available from 24th November

Super Six Festive Vegetables available from 18th December

    Turkey available from 19th December.
