The Alan Wake sequel is about to drop, so here’s what you need to know about where you can play it and how much it costs.

After 13 years of waiting, Alan Wake fans will finally be able to continue the horror story with a new storyline and eventually the chance to dig deeper with a New Game+ mode.

Although we weren’t entirely impressed with it, as explained in our review, there’s still lots to be excited about in Alan Wake 2, especially if you were a fan of the first one.

Here’s what you need to know about Alan Wake 2’s price, platforms, and its mysterious connection to the previous developer’s game, Control.

When is Alan Wake 2 released in the UK?

Alan Wake 2 will be ready to play on Friday, October 27, from 5am UK time – just in time for the Halloween weekend.

Remedy’s new horror game was initially set to be released on October 17, but was moved back because of other heavy-hitters like Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Spider-Man 2. being due around the same time.

Remedy’s new horror shooter has an age rating of 18 and will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Whatever you formats is, it’ll take up a sizeable amount of storage at 82GB, 85GB, and 86GB, respectively.

How much does Alan Wake 2 cost?

Alan Wake 2 will set you back £49.99 on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, but is only £39.99 on PC via the Epic Games store.

There’s no early access to the game but you can buy it early and pre-load it to your console or PC before its release.

Is Alan Wake 2 digital only?

Unfortunately, yes. Alan Wake 2 will only be available digitally, so no luck for fans who want to buy the physical copy of the game.

The reasons for that have been rather vague and unconvincing, with developer Remedy claiming it helps them to reduce the price. However, it’s probably more to do with the fact that publisher Epic Games is used to the digital-only world of Fortnite and doesn’t like retailers taking a cut of its profits.

There have been whispers of a limited edition physical release later down the line but nothing’s been confirmed yet and it will be a while even if it does happen.

What is the story in Alan Wake 2?

Alan Wake 2 is a survival horror game played from a third person perspective, where you play as both Alan Wake and a new character: FBI agent Saga Anderson.

The sequel takes place 13 years after its predecessor, when agent Anderson comes to Bright Falls to investigate a series of ritualistic murders. She subsequently gets tangled up with the supernatural history of Wake and the town.

Is Alan Wake connected to Control?

Yes. The Alan Wake games take place in the same universe as Remedy’s 2019 release Control.

In a DLC expansion of Control you explore Bright Falls, Washington, which is the setting of the Alan Wake games. You also find find manuscripts in the Control expansion that might be written Alan Wake, and fans theorise that Control is in fact written and created by Alan Wake to get back to his own reality.

You’ll find out if those theories are true in the game itself, which has numerous story connections to Control and the fictional Federal Bureau of Control.

Does Alan Wake 2 have a New Game+?

It will do. Remedy recently announced that the Alan Wake sequel will receive a New Game+ mode, but as a DLC at an unknown time.

The New Game+ feature, which lets you replay the game with new features, will include a new Nightmare difficulty setting, the ability to retain all unlocked weapons and upgrades when starting your next run, and a new narrative, including new Manuscript pages and video content.

It might be out this year but certainly shouldn’t be any later than early next.
