Avoid a trip to A&E (Picture: Beachgem10 /TikTok)
Satsumas in a stocking at Christmas don’t really cut it anymore, as youngsters search for a toy that offers a bit more excitement.
And while there are some great gifts to help keep your child active, like a football or bike, there are others which, to be honest, are more trouble than they’re worth.
Dr Meghan Martin, a paediatric emergency medicine doctor, often talks about her life and her own children to her 1.4 million TikTok followers.
Ahead of Christmas, the doctor has shared what she deems to be the top 5 most dangerous presents parents can get their kids…
Button batteries
First off, if you’re planning to give your kids toys for Christmas, avoid ones with button batteries.
‘They keep those little compartments closed with these little cheap screws — it’s not worth it,’ she says. ‘They can literally kill kids and they do every year.’
Water beads
Next up, she tells the 1.3 million viewers to avoid water beads as they are a choking hazard for both kids and pets.
‘Water beads are sold as sensory toys but little kids can ingest them when they’re small and they can get larger and cause bowel obstructions,’ she notes.
Electric scooters

Unsurprisingly, Dr Meghan isn’t a fan of electric scooters, either. ‘Kids go way too fast!” she explains.
‘They hit a bump, they go flying, they mess up their faces, arms and heads — it’s bad news.’
Hoverboards
In the emergency room, year after year, Dr Meghan warns that post-Christmas, she gets an influx of hoverboard-related injuries — equally as hazardous as the electric scooter, if not more.
Trampolines

But there’s no Christmas present Dr Meghan ‘detests’ more than trampolines.
‘Number one item from the list should not be a surprise to anyone, it’s trampolines,’ she says.
‘It doesn’t matter if you have a net, it doesn’t matter if it’s buried in the ground. Most of the injuries actually happen on the trampoline.’
With 1.3 million views, this viral video will hopefully ensure that the kids spend more time in Lapland and less in A&E.
