‘Adopt a Coral’ community restoration initiative unveiled

    • Community Involvement: The “Adopt a Coral” scheme encourages local communities to participate directly in coral reef rehabilitation, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility towards marine ecosystems.
    • What does the Campaign aim to do: This initiative aims to raise public awareness about the importance of marine ecosystem preservation, addressing the critical need for conservation education among local populations.
    • Support for Sustainability Goals: The project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, marking a strategic effort to safeguard biodiversity and combat ecosystem decline in marine environments.

Riyadh: A new environmental initiative aimed at directly involving local communities in coral reef rehabilitation will be launched on Saturday.

The innovative “Adopt a Coral” scheme, by the Saudi Arabian General Organisation for the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea (SHAMS), will also promote awareness of marine ecosystem preservation.

The project represents a significant step in Saudi Arabia’s marine conservation efforts, supporting Vision 2030 sustainability goals and the Saudi Green Initiative’s mission to prevent ecosystem decline and protect biodiversity.
