Trent Alexander-Arnold singled out Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah for special praise following his side’s comeback victory over Newcastle United.
Liverpool fell behind after 25 minutes at St James’ Park through Anthony Gordon and found themselves down to 10 men just three minutes later with Virgil van Dijk shown a straight red card for bringing down Alexander Isak.
Battling against the odds, the Reds launched a remarkable turnaround late on with Darwin Nunez equalising just four minutes after coming off the bench before rifling home an injury time winner.
Also among those to come off the bench alongside Nunez was 20-year-old defender Quansah, who replaced Joel Matip at the back.
The centre-half came on for his senior debut with Alexander-Arnold hailing his performance during a frenetic afternoon in the north east.
‘You don’t genuinely believe you’re going to win the game but if you stick together,’ Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports.
‘You’ll get chances. The lads that came on, amazing. Jarell Quansah. Absolutely outstanding.

‘We executed that change of plan excellently, hit them twice on the counter. The lads that came on were outstanding, Darwin, Harvey [Elliot], Quansah, all brilliant.’
Alexander-Arnold rated Sunday’s comeback as among the very best Liverpool performances.
‘It was something very special out there today. You come here with a game plan, you want to control the game, dictate possession and try to kill the atmosphere as quickly as possible. That is normally a huge advantage for them.
‘That went out the window very quickly. We had to do it the hard way, the very hard way. But we all pulled together, dug deep and delivered something for the ages.
‘One of our best performances since the manager has come in, and we’ve had some outstanding performances as a team. We’ll look back on this game as something very, very special.’
Liverpool have taken seven points from a possible nine, leaving them in fourth place after their first three games of the season.
