A Doctor Who actor is stepping into Alison Hammond’s shoes to present the Baftas 2024.

The This Morning star, 48, is reportedly ‘gutted’ to not be taking on the glitzy role for a second time, having hosted the annual event with Richard E Grant last year.

A source has claimed that the Great British Bake Off was ‘not asked back’, while David Tennant, who recently made a triumphant return to his career-making role as the Time Lord, has been confirmed as the new presenter.

‘I am delighted to have been asked to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards and help celebrate the very best of this year’s films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life,’ the Good Omens actor said as he was announced earlier this month.

Alison, meanwhile, was said to have been disappointed to have been snubbed by the prestigious ceremony, which has triggered feelings of ‘imposter syndrome’ and had hopes of being made the main host.

‘Alison had really hoped that she could do the BAFTAs for another year and even become a main host,’ a source claimed.

‘She’s gutted not to be asked back – especially as she has built up such a great rapport with all the A-listers in Hollywood who seem to love her too.’

The insider continued to Closer: ‘Alison often suffers from imposter syndrome and thinks that everything could get taken away from her at a moment’s notice, despite all her success.

‘Because she got into the entertainment industry via a reality show, she’s always felt like she’s had to work harder to prove to people that she’s got skill and talent and isn’t just famous for being famous.

‘She’s really grateful for everything she has going on right now, but she’s aware how cut-throat the TV world can be.’

Ahead of the National Television Awards last year, Alison admitted on This Morning that she has imposter syndrome, telling Schofield and Holly: ‘I think I’ve got that imposter syndrome… I’m seeing it from the outside thinking ‘”Is this really real?”

‘I’ve been to that award ceremony so many times, and I’m alright with sitting in the background and other people taking the limelight, I’m alright with it.’

Among the films and TV shows nominated for Baftas this year are Oppenheimer, Poor Things and Saltburn with Cillian Murphy and Barry Keoghan battling it out for leading actor.

Oppenheimer is well and truly leading the way with 13 nods, followed by Poor Things with 11 while Killers of a Flower Moon and The Zone of Interest share nine each.

One notable snub was Barbie which was noticeably missing from the best film category although unlike the Oscars, Margot Robbie was at least recognised as best actress.

The EE Bafta Film Awards 2024 ceremony will be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday February 18.
