Get you up to speed: UN General Assembly enters second day with key speeches ahead
Day Two of the United Nations General Assembly in New York featured speeches by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian where he addressed President Trump and said “Iran has been the subject of terrorism” to which the room acknowledged.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Prominent figures from the artificial intelligence sector are also set to speak to the UN Security Council during this session.
Around 80% of delegates walked out in protest of Netanyahu’s speech, protesting that a war criminal is given the stage. Staff from the United States tried to intervene and ‘encourage’ some members to return to the hall, but no-one did.
Israel has isolated itself
The United Nations General Assembly provides a platform for member nations to introduce and discuss topics as well as a platform for International organisations like the IMF who use the platform to make speeches.
Yesterday was dominated by Gaza, all the leaders from the middle east discussed the priority of safeguarding against a genocide as well President Macron who vociferously said ‘the world cannot stand by during a genocide … we are not living in biblical ages where the extermination of a civilisation was normal’.
