Get you up to speed: British mother kidnapped from Malawi home by four men | News World

Nusrat Osman, a 47-year-old British national, was abducted by four men in Blantyre, Malawi, at around 12:30 local time on Friday. Police are investigating the incident and are sending SMS messages to the public for assistance in locating her.

The Malawi Police Service is actively seeking information from the public through SMS messages as the investigation into the abduction continues. Meanwhile, the UK Foreign Office is coordinating with local authorities regarding the case of Nusrat Osman, who was kidnapped on 11th September.

The UK Foreign Office is in contact with local authorities regarding the abduction of Nusrat Osman, a British national, while Malawi’s President Atupele Muluzi has expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of kidnappings in the country. Police are utilising SMS alerts to gather information from the public and have offered a reward for credible leads related to Osman’s safe return.

What remains unclear — The motive behind Nusrat Osman’s abduction is currently unknown.

The anguished husband of a British mother snatched by four men in Malawi has said ‘I don’t know where she is’.

Nusrat Osman, 47, was grabbed from her home and bundled into a grey Nissan Dualis – registration CA 6956 – that sped off from Blantyre at 12.30pm on Friday.

Police are now blasting SMS messages to the public in a bid to track her down after failing to hear from the kidnappers.

A reward of more than £12,600 has been offered for ‘credible information’ leading to the arrest of the culprits and safe return of the mum-of-two.

Police said the motive behind the abduction was so far unknown, to the anguish of her husband.

‘I don’t know where she is or how she is’, he told Nyasa Times.

‘My wife is an auditor and I have no issues with anyone.’

Atupele Muluzi, the President of the United Democratic Front, said kidnappings are becoming more common in Malawi.

He said: ‘I am deeply disturbed by reports of the kidnapping of Auditor Nusrat Jiwa Osman in Blantyre.

‘Kidnappings and abductions are becoming increasingly frequent in Malawi, a country where such incidents were previously largely unheard of. ‘This is a matter of grave concern for every Malawian.

‘I urge the Malawi Police Service to intensify investigations and do everything within its power to secure Nusrat’s safe return and bring those responsible to justice.

‘I appeal to anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact the family or report immediately to the nearest police station.’

A friend from a local nursery Little Oaks Montessori School, where Ms Osman sent her children, posted: ‘Nusrat was kidnapped on Friday, 11th September, and the search for her is still ongoing.

‘Nusrat is one of the kindest, warmest and most loving people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She is a devoted mother and a loving wife, and her family and friends miss her more than words can express.

‘Nusrat was also one of the very first parents to enrol her child at Little Oaks Montessori School, making her a founding part of the Little Oaks family. She holds a very special place in our hearts.

‘Her family, friends and loved ones are desperately praying for her safety and for her to be brought home soon.

‘Please help us by sharing this poster and spreading the word about Nusrat’s kidnapping as far and as widely as possible.’

The UK Foreign Office said that it was aware of reports that a British national had been abducted in Malawi and was in touch with local authorities.
