Get you up to speed: For the first time since Iran war, Trump and Netanyahu meet amid fraying ties, but staying away from NYC for fear of arrest

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to visit the White House on July 28. The trip is expected to be met with a less favourable reception compared to previous visits amidst ongoing military actions in Gaza and heightened tensions regarding Israel’s conduct in the region.

US officials have expressed concerns over the implications of ongoing military actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank. As Netanyahu prepares for his July 28 visit, the Biden administration is navigating increasing domestic criticism regarding its stance on Israel.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to the White House on July 28 is expected to be met with a less welcoming atmosphere, reflecting growing discontent among US political leaders and the public regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank. In light of rising tensions, the Biden administration is likely to discuss measures aimed at mitigating violence and restoring stability in the region.

What remains unclear — The specifics of the US’s response to mounting tensions over Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank were not detailed, but Trump will face a barrage of probing questions in his press conference.

Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House once again on July 28. But the Israeli Prime Minister is likely to get a cooler welcome in Washington than on previous trips.

The US’s full-scale air war on Iran – which Netanyahu reportedly had a major role in convincing Donald Trump to launch – has become a major headache for the US President.

Toxic Israel is a ‘no-no’ before the midterms

Meanwhile continued deadly strikes on a devastated Gaza despite a cease-fire, the occupation of southern Lebanon, and mounting surge in terrorising settler violence in the West Bank, supported by Israeli government and politicians, have all helped to sour opinion on Israel, both among the American public and among US political leaders.

Israel is a toxic topic for politicians ahead of the midterms.

Benjamin Netanyahu is visiting the White House for a record seventh time since Israel began its genocide in Gaza in October 2023. The Israeli PM has visited Donald Trump more than any other foreign leader and has received more than $20B in US military support.
