Alpine confirm Franco Colapinto will stay for 2026

Franco Colapinto Confirms Alpine Stay Until 2026

Alpine has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will remain with the team for the 2026 Formula 1 season, putting to rest months of speculation regarding his future. The Argentine driver, currently on loan from Williams, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue racing alongside teammate Pierre Gasly.

    Uncertainty in Colapinto’s Future

Colapinto’s journey with Alpine has been fraught with uncertainty, particularly following his replacement of Jack Doohan at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in April. A challenging run of form left fans and analysts questioning whether he would see out the season, with reports hinting at the possibility of Alpine reverting to Doohan or promoting reserve driver Paul Aron.

    Team’s Confidence Restored

In a recent statement, Colapinto remarked, “I am very grateful to Flavio and the entire team for their belief in me to help drive the team forwards in the future.” He acknowledged the hurdles he has faced since his Formula 1 debut, emphasizing his pride in remaining with Alpine for the upcoming season: “It has been a long and tough road, and I am very proud for the opportunity to drive with this team again in 2026.”

    Symbolic Announcement Date

Alpine made the announcement on November 7, a date that interestingly aligns with Colapinto’s race number, 43. This detail underscores the team’s investment in the young driver and their commitment to fostering his growth within F1.

    A Rising Star from Argentina

Since stepping in as Logan Sargeant’s replacement at Williams in mid-2024, Colapinto has captivated the Argentine public, becoming the country’s first F1 driver since Gastón Mazzacane in 2001. His performances have not only made him a national hero but have also attracted significant financial backing from sponsors such as Globant and YPF, as well as Latin American e-commerce giant Mercado Libre.

    What Lies Ahead for Alpine

The 2026 season promises to be a transformational one for Alpine, as the team prepares to switch from Renault engines to Mercedes power. This change comes as part of a wider overhaul in line with a new set of rules governing aerodynamics and engine performance. With Colapinto and Gasly at the helm, Alpine aims to capitalize on these changes and make a significant impact in Formula 1.

Colapinto’s confirmed stay is a pivotal moment for Alpine, as they look to secure their position in a rapidly evolving sport while harnessing the unique talent of this emerging star.
