Hamilton ‘doesn’t blame’ F1 fans for expecting more in debut Ferrari season

Hamilton Reflects on Challenging Start at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton has acknowledged that he does not blame Formula 1 fans for their high expectations following his move to Ferrari for the 2025 season, despite a disappointing start to his time with the iconic team. After dominating the grid with Mercedes, where he secured six championships alongside his 2008 title with Mclaren, the British driver now finds himself struggling for form at Ferrari, sitting sixth in the championship standings and yet to claim a podium finish.

    A Tough Transition to Ferrari

Hamilton’s transition from Mercedes, where he enjoyed a record-breaking tenure, has not gone smoothly. With his best result being a solitary win in the Shanghai sprint, Hamilton has expressed that adapting to the unique culture and dynamics of Ferrari is a more complex challenge than many might presume.

    Understanding the Challenge

The 40-year-old veteran explained that while fans often have their own perspectives on performance, the intricacies of team dynamics aren’t always visible from the outside. “You can’t imagine how the machine really operates otherwise,” Hamilton stated. “I’ve been in F1 for so long, but when I came to this team it really was different again.”

He emphasised his focus on what he can control—his preparation and teamwork—while maintaining a positive outlook as Ferrari gears up for a new competitive ruleset in 2026.

    Cultural Differences in F1

Hamilton also highlighted the existing cultural disparities within Ferrari as a contributing factor to his slow adaptation. Drawing comparisons to his past experiences, he referenced Niki Lauda, who played a pivotal role in persuading him to join Mercedes and later fostered a strong friendship.

    Bridging the Gap

Reflecting on their relationship, Hamilton shared that Lauda initially had reservations about his unconventional identity in motorsport. However, after their first meeting, Lauda realised their shared passion for racing: “He said, ‘you’re just like me, you’re a racer to the core,’” Hamilton recalled.

This mutual respect helped to diminish the barriers that had existed between them, reinforcing Hamilton’s belief in the importance of open dialogue within teams.

    Future Opportunities

As the Formula 1 landscape evolves, Hamilton remains optimistic about his potential for success with Ferrari. With a new ruleset on the horizon, he sees the opportunity to recalibrate and forge a fresh path forward.

In conclusion, while the early days at Ferrari have presented challenges for Hamilton, his commitment to improving and adapting remains unwavering—a testament to the resilience that has defined his illustrious career.
