Cliff Notes – Hulk Hogan ‘lost a lot of weight in final weeks before death’

    • Hulk Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, experienced significant health decline in his final weeks, suffering from shortness of breath and a weak heart, ultimately leading to his death at age 71.
    • In his last days, Hogan reportedly lost a considerable amount of weight and was on oxygen, while also attempting to reconcile with estranged loved ones.
    • Following a serious medical incident, Hogan was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead; the cause of death remains unconfirmed, pending investigation.

Hulk Hogan reportedly struggled with ‘shortness of breath’ and a ‘weak heart’ as his health declined in his final weeks.

The WWE Hall of Famer died after a ‘serious medical related issue’ on Thursday aged 71, and it’s said he had ‘lost a lot of weight’ over his last few days as he suffered at his mansion in Florida.

‘He was suffering from shortness of breath, got tired easily, had lost a lot of weight and was on oxygen,’ a source told the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, it’s said Hogan – whose real name was Terry Bollea – tried to make amends with estranged loved ones in his last weeks as his health took a turn.

‘He had a lot of scores to settle. Didn’t want to leave anything unsaid,’ the insider added.

Just weeks before his death, Hogan’s wife Sky – who he married in 2023 – had denied reports claiming he was in a coma on his deathbed.

She claimed at the time that his heart was ‘strong’ following a routine neck surgery – a four-level Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) – which she described as ‘an intense surgery with a long and layered healing process’.

Hogan’s family confirmed the news to Us Weekly, with the Clearwater Police Department later providing more details.

‘Just before 10 AM, Clearwater Police Department responded to a house in the 1000 block of El Dorado Avenue for a medical related call,’ Major Nate Burnside said.

‘It was discovered at that time that Terry Bollea, also known as Hulk Hogan, was experiencing a serious medical related issue.

‘Personnel provided medical treatment at that time and transported Mr. Bollea to Morton Plant Hospital, where he died at 11:17 AM.

‘The Clearwater Police Department is conducting a medical investigation, which is standard in these types of cases. There are no signs of foul play or suspicious activity related to this call for service at this time.’

Burnside noted that records wouldn’t be released on Thursday, and asked people to respect the privacy of the wrestler’s family.

Hogan’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed, while operators stated the medical call was regarding a ‘cardiac arrest’.

Hogan was a hugely significant figure in the wrestling world.

He is one of the most famous WWE superstars of all time

The wrestling world has paid tribute to the former world champion, including fellow Hall of Famer Ric Flair.

The so-called Nature Boy wrote: ‘I am absolutely shocked to hear about the passing of my close friend @HulkHogan! Hulk has been by my side since we started in the wrestling business.

‘An incredible athlete, talent, friend, and father! Our friendship has meant the world to me. He was always there for me even when I didn’t ask for him to be.

Hogan also courted controversy, including his 2015 racism scandal.

He was booed during his final WWE TV appearance in January 2025

‘He was one of the first to visit me when I was in the hospital with a 2% chance of living, and he prayed by my bedside. Hulk also lent me money when Reid was sick. Hulkster, no one will ever compare to you! Rest in peace my friend!’

In 2015, WWE terminated his contract after a tape of him emerged using a racist slur, with many wrestlers and fans feeling he didn’t do enough to apologise for the incident.

At the time of his death he was married to yoga instructor Sky Daily, who was 26 years his junior, having previously been married to Linda Claridge – with whom he had daughter Brooke and son Nick – from 1983 until 2007, and Jennifer McDaniel from 2010 to 2012.
