Chancellor Friedrich Merz tracker – Week 27
Monday 30th June 2025
He attended his first EU Council meeting last week and said ‘Only if we speak with one voice will we be able to hold our own in a rough, geopolitical environment.’ Making reference to the chaos being caused by Trump’s agents within the EU, and pushed for unity. ‘We Europeans must find new strength.’
He also took a moment to remember the former Minister-President Wolfgang Böhmer of Saxony-Anhalt, one of Germany’s states, who died this week. Saxony-Anhalt used to be one of the most powerful duchies in Germany (before World War I) and was dissolved in 1952 and replaced with various districts.
